Today, I thought we would look at some of the work of interior designer Elizabeth Dinkel, whose firm is based in West Hollywood, California. I admire her judicious use of pattern and the meticulous attention to detail, especially in her choice of antiques.

I didn’t know too much about this organization but the more I read about them, the more I was impressed by what they are trying to achieve. Founded in 2003 by Connie Duckworth, ex-Goldman Sachs partner, ARZU aims to empower the women of Afghanistan by paying them a fair wage to weave, and by then selling the rugs which they create. As part of their employment the women have to send their kids to school and the women themselves have to attend literacy classes. ARZU, which means ‘hope’, helps Afghan women weavers and their families break the cycle of poverty by providing them a steady income and access to education and healthcare.

Day dreaming about candy and ice cream, so I thought instead of visiting my cupboard or freezer I would do a little blogging. When I was a young girl my Mom always bought Neapolitan ice cream. Not only is it a delicious combo of flavors the trio is also an amazing color palette. It looks great on the plate and in your home decor.

Debby Dean & Sahara Luxe
Dreaming of vacation destinations after a week of rain in Los Angeles. My dreams led me to Morocco, the Saraha, Souk shopping. I want to book a flight to Marrakech asap! Alas, not going to happen in the near future, looks like Disney and Legoland are my next vacation destinations (what sacrifices we make for our children). So for now on this rainy day, cooking in my tagine, reading Paul Bowels and my imagination will have to take me there.

I am a huge fan of the color turquoise, so it was no surprise when it was chosen as the “Color of the Year” by Pantone. It’s a color that pops and is such a fun statement in clothing, jewelry, and home decor. Makes me jealous that my sister Darbie raided my Mom’s collection of 70’s turquoise jewelry, collected on travels with my Dad. I knew I should have slipped that big oval ring into my purse when I had the chance!

I’ve become increasingly interested in designs using recycled materials. I notice a lot of young designers using discarded materials to great effect and I plan to write about them regularly. First off, the Committee – a partnership between British designers Clare Page and Harry Richardson.
Both an art project and a functioning light, their Kebab Lamp series consists of a totem pole effect of antiques and found items, each with an individual theme.

The word ’scavenger’ might not immediately spring to mind when describing Dana Haveson. Just look at the interiors of her new shop in Redmond, WA. Scavenger Home is also online at Fyndes and we know Dana is going to have a lot of success. For the fascinating stories behind some of her finds you should read her blog. I vouch for her based on her wonderful, self deprecating humor alone.
